With the opening of CPK ASAP, I'm reminded of the open air mall that was the Fashion Square and the Fashion Square Deli that called it home.
I thought the ASAP meant they'd have NO seating. Guess I missed the marketing. That place is SCREAMING for restaurants ... and stores that appeal to non-female, post 30-year-old sub-$100K-income types ... but I digress.

I remember both the open air mall and the Fashion Square Deli. I went to college with one of the members of the Belzberg family who owned the deli, they were very nice people and the food was great. I don't know when but at some point the Belzbergs sold it and it lasted for some time after that under new owners if my memory serves me right.
The interesting note about the Fashion Square is that enclosing the mall is probably one of the things that killed the neighboring Sherman Oaks Galleria. And now the once indoor Galleria is an open air mall (sort of). Funny how things turn out.
CPK / Shmee-P-K - another formula driven restaurant - designed for our fast food society.
